Motivation in education

Motivation on the process of education is a bit specific, because of the different systems of periodical control of the knowledge and evaluation of the scientific development of the educated. Typical for the process of education are the short periods of acquisition of new knowledge, after which the students are tested and they abilities to remember and reproduce what they have learned are evaluated. When the stimulus for personal development motivates the students to improve themselves through university education, they definitely are more motivated to succeed constantly. Motivation is directly related to the results, which the students achieve.
2. Problems with motivation
The problems which lead to low motivation of the students during their education indisputably are very well known and this is why we won’t talk about them too detailed.
2.1. The monotonous course of the learning process
The learning process in schools often is too monotonous and boring for students. Enrolled at the university, they expect their creativity be encouraged to find space for development and expression. When the learners start studying, they often find similarities between the university and the high school and it does not reflect well on their desire to learn.
2.2. The low viability of the studied materials and lack of timeliness
The low viability of teaching materials in the practice is one of the main factors for low motivation of students. Duty of university teachers is to provide students books that are relevant and useful in training. The world around us is changing dynamically, so teachers’ job is to provide for the students materials which are made according the latest technologies, which are used in the relevant business sphere. Study of old techniques and methods is one of the fastest factors which decrease students’ motivation. Therefore, the active participation of teachers in the selection and updating of training materials contributes to the development of the students and their desire to increase and apply what they have learned in practice.
2.3. The unclear picture of how the knowledge is being evaluated
When students are not aware of the remuneration that they wil get for their efforts, the level of motivation decreases. Often their opinion on the evaluation system is that additional efforts won‘t lead to a higher rating, which is discouraging. In the situation with the lack of information on the teachers evaluation criteria student motivation and thus their desire to learn regresses.
2.4. Lack of experience in practice after completion of training and the difficulty finding prospects for realization
Often after completion of training, the students realize that they have no real experience in the practice, which complicates the process of searching and finding a job. The combination of knowledge and lack of skills is not considered a priority by employers in selecting staff. So education system that “produces” graduates who do not know how to apply the knowledge in practice is doomed to failure. Therefore, we believe that in order to increase student motivation, academic leaders need to consider the possibility of providing more educational practices for students.
2.5. The lack of motivation for the teachers
In our opinion during their education students need an authority person to guide them and to be an example for them with their erudition and proved skills in practice. Such respected professionals could be used in the universities as lecturers or guest-lecturers. The teachers who don’t see potential in students, don’t try to earn their respect, don’t belief in their professional realization, who don’t update the teaching materials and have decreasing influence on student motivation have no place at the Universities as and environment for self-development. Teachers like these are partially responsible for the low motivation level of the students. After all the GPA of the students depends on how good did they acquire the knowledge that the teachers have shared with them. We can conclude that motivation of students depends strongly on teachers’ one.
2.6. Difficult financial situation, the need to work (not always the specialty) during the education
The current economical state enforces many students to work during their education, so they can provide for themselves normal standard of living. On this reason not all the students can engage on 100% their attention and time with the learning process. Inability to focus on education is an additional reason for the lowering of the results and consequently to reduce the motivation of students to prove how much they can achieve.
